HyPEF – Promoting an Environmentally-Responsible Hydrogen Economy by Enabling Product Environmental Footprint Studies – is looking for independent experts to join a review panel shaping the future of hydrogen sustainability.
As part of this EU-funded initiative, we are developing Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCRs) for key hydrogen technologies, ensuring comprehensive and reliable environmental assessments. To guarantee scientific integrity, we are assembling an independent third-party review panel.
Welcome to HyPEF! We will deliver and test the FIRST EVER Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCRs) for fuel cells and hydrogen (FCH) products.
Who We Need
The panel will consist of three external experts, each fulfilling one of the following roles:
✅ Verification & Validation Expert
✅ Environmental Footprint / Life Cycle Assessment (EF/LCA) Expert
✅ Hydrogen Technologies Expert
Your Role as a Reviewer
As a member of the HyPEF Review Panel, you will evaluate the development of three PEFCRs covering:
- Hydrogen production devices
- Hydrogen storage tanks
- Fuel cells for electricity production
The review process will take place at four key milestones:
📌 April 2025 – Preliminary environmental footprint studies
📌 September 2025 – First draft of the PEFCRs
📌 April 2026 – Second draft of the PEFCRs
📌 August 2026 – Third draft of the PEFCRs
The expected workload is periodic rather than continuous, allowing flexibility in your participation.

To ensure a high standard of independent assessment, reviewers must meet specific qualification criteria. The verification process is based on a scoring system that evaluates three key areas:
✔ Verification & Validation Experience
✔ Environmental Footprint / Life Cycle Assessment (EF/LCA) Expertise
✔ Knowledge of Relevant Hydrogen Technologies & Processes
Reviewers must provide a self-declaration of their qualifications, demonstrating a minimum score to be eligible. Additionally, all reviewers must maintain full independence from the project to prevent conflicts of interest.
